The Downing Street Memo and the Jesus Tortilla

Kevin at Wizbang had a very interesting point to make on one of the main subjects of contention of the "reality-based" community on the Downing Street Memo which, like a poopy diaper to a 18mo old, has so captured their facination.

The line in question:

"But the intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy."

Which he deftly notes is most likely a misunderstanding of British dialect and the particular usage of the word "fixed."

Now a quick peek at dictionary.com gives 11 main definitions for "fixed", among them "to make stable or firm", "to direct steadily", "to make ready, prepare". Their preferred reading of "fixed" doesn't show up until 11th on the list.

I guess Bush got to dictionary.com, too.

I for one hope very much that "the intelligence and facts were being directed steadily around the problem." That's what our leaders are ostensibly for, not just regulating and taxing us to death.

The problem for the left, is that they've found their Jesus Tortilla. When you believe something so passionately that you divorce faith from reason, it's very easy to be led astray. This can happen when you don't have a firm context binding your beliefs to natural law. They so desperately want to be right for the first time in history, that they're finding Mary in the salt stains of a tunnel, indulging in the very lunatic adoration that they so sophisticatedly scoff at when it would point to a loving Creator.

But like everything from the left, their excess of faith points not to the comforting presence of a benevolent God, but rather fuels the frenzy of the pack in shredding apart their prey.

Its hard to remain a skeptic in the face of such naked malice.
